Criminals shot and killed a community patroller who was chasing them on September 4.
Rabie Ridge SAPS corporate communications officer Captain Mofana Masela said the patroller was killed while chasing criminals who terrorise the community of Kanana Extension Four.
“Shadrack Mkhonazi was a leader of Marikana patrollers who always sacrificed his life for the safety of the community.
“On that morning, the 66-year-old was patrolling and monitoring people on their way to work.
“Apparently, he suspected certain men and gave chase and as he was running behind them, they shot him,” said Masela.
Masela said the victim was rushed to Ethafeni Clinic in Tembisa where he was certified dead.
“Our detective was called to the clinic.
“Rabie Ridge SAPS is investigating a case of murder.
“Police is appealing to the community to help SAPS arrest those hardened criminals.
“The man is well-known for his fighting spirit. He really was a crime buster. He has already helped the police to recover four firearms at Rabie Ridge and he was about to recover the fifth,” said Masela.
Masela said Mkhonazi will really be missed not only by his family but also by the community. He was safeguarding them as well as the police.
