A team of Ivory Park SAPS Crime Prevention officers have arrested two men at the weekend of July 4 for the possession of a stolen motor vehicle, three firearms, which include two hunting rifles and a pistol, and live ammunition.
According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, the police, acting on information, managed to locate the two men who were driving to an unknown house in Ivory Park Seven.
“Upon searching the suspects, the police first found that the vehicle had false number plates and, in fact, has been stolen. They were also found in possession of three firearms for which neither has been licensed to possess, 11 plasma televisions, grass cutters, clothes, a water pump, electrical appliances and chainsaws,” said Matimulane.
Matimulane said preliminary information revealed that the vehicle and the pistol have been stolen in Lephalale, Limpopo.
“The possibility of the other property originating from the same place cannot be ruled out, and the facts thereof will be established during further investigations. The police are hard at work to establish the origin of the other property, whether the men can be linked to a spate of other crimes in Ivory Park or even elsewhere, and whether there are other people working with them,” added Matimulane.
The station commander of the Ivory Park, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, has welcomed this arrest and extended his appreciation to the officers involved.
“We will go all out in establishing the origin and ownership of every item found as this may assist us in linking these two suspects to other crimes in our areas,” said Ngcobo.
The two are expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court to face charges of unlicensed possession of motor vehicles, possession of firearms and ammunition and property suspected to have been stolen.
