The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) in Ekurhuleni North will embark on a national march on July 13.

“Prior to the day of the march there will also be picketing by our members at correctional centres, SAPS premises. The dates will be communicated in due course,” said local Popcru secretariat Xolani Shezi.

Popcru will be embarking on a national march following its 2018 National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting decision to confront head-on the challenges that have for long been raised, but ignored, all of which have adversely affected our members within our scope of operation. Shezi said among the issues contained in the detailed memorandums include:

• The finalisation of outstanding 2nd phase OSD

• Overcrowding and understaffing

• Once-off promotion for all members with 10 years or more in one salary

• One Police Service – One Police Act

• Promotions

• Restructuring of the SAPS

• Finalisation of the grading of PSA appointee levels

• End outsourcing

• Review of the Post-Establishment within Corrections

• Reintroduction of the Transformation Task Team

• State bank for Housing Scheme

• The implementation of all signed agreements and resolutions

• The implementation of the National Health Insurance

He said the memorandums will be handed over at the Union Buildings in Pretoria at 9am to the ministers of police, justice, transport and health.

Union members will be meeting at 7am on July 13 at Tembisa SAPS and buses will depart from there.
