The Taiwan Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation led a charitable cause whereby it roped in locals to volunteer to help with the alleviation of poverty in Tembisa.
The foundation’s local representative, Salaminah Nhlapho, said to ease the plight of poverty in schoolgoing children on May 16, the foundation donated 25kg of rice to each needy learner in four Tembisan schools.
Nhlapho said in addition to the rice packages children received, they also got shoes and some stationery.
Schools that benefited were Moduopo Primary School, Mvelaphanda Primary School, Sedibeng Primary School and Mavulana Primary School.
An educator and HOD at Mvelaphanda Primary School, Livhuwani Todani, said as a school they are very happy for the donation as it will go a long way towards assisting children.
“We feel we are very lucky because we were among the chosen schools that got the donation.
“Children and their parents are very happy as well. Over 350 of our learners benefitted from the programme,” Todani said.
She expressed her gratitude and said she wished the donor could give more where there is a need in the school.
