Ivory Park SAPS arrests man arrested for attempted murder

This is the firearm that was found in possession of the suspect.

Ivory Park SAPS Crime Prevention members have on February 23 arrested a 38-year-old man from the local taxi organisation for an attempted murder case which happened last year and for possession of an unlicensed firearm.

According to the Ivory Park SAPS communication officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, the suspect was seen by the victim who called the police.

“The victim took them to the Ivory Park Extension Two taxi rank and he pointed at the man who shot him last year. What is alleged to have happened prior to the shooting was that the victim was accused of having stolen cooking pots from a woman running a small business within the parameters of the taxi rank.

“The victim was first assaulted but is alleged to have come back to get even with the person who assaulted him. And he was shot in the thigh. Upon their arrival, the police introduced themselves to the suspect, the reason for their visit and subsequently searched him before he was taken to the police station. And that was when they found the firearm with six rounds of live ammunition. He had no licence to possess the firearm,” said Matimulane.

The suspect will be charged with an attempted murder and illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court.
