Tembisa SAPS arrests three armed robbers

Three suspects, aged 34 and two 29, were arrested for a business robbery committed at a tuck shop in Sedibeng Section at about 11am on February 7.

According to the Tembisa SAPS communication officer, Captain Manyadza Ralidzivha, the 37-year-old complainant alleged that he was busy at his tuck shop when he was approached by the three armed men.

“The suspects pointed at him with firearms. They robbed him of cash, cigarettes, airtime vouchers and cellphones. The suspects fled to their getaway vehicle. The car was identified as a Toyota Venture and the complainant managed to write down the number plate,” said Ralidzivha.

He added the Tembisa SAPS traced the vehicle to Kempton Park.

“A 29-year-old suspect, who is a taxi driver, was arrested. The police traced the other two suspects and were found in Tembisa. Two firearms and ammunition were found in possession of a 34-year-old suspect. He was also found to be in possession of the stolen cellphones and cash,” added Ralidzivha.

He further said the victims of the business robbery at Sedibeng Section had managed to identify their cellphones among the few that were found in possession of the 34-year-old suspect.

“It was later established that one of the firearms was a toy gun. The other one was a 9mm pistol with eight live rounds of ammunition. The suspects could be linked to other cases that they may have committed around the Ekurhuleni North Cluster,” said Ralidzivha.
