Tessia Madzivane, Theresho Moshidi, Mona Swanepoel and Lungiswa Khosa.

The first Tembisa Beauty Pageant on September 9 in Sam Hlalele Hall saw 16 beautiful women vy to be The Face of Tembisa.

The pageant’s organiser Itumeleng Malatjia said they were excited to initiate an event of this nature as it was the first of its kind in Tembisa.

“Through this pageant we are empowering young women and encouraging them to use and share their talent as a career. We want young women to put food on the table by using their own talent,” said Itumeleng.

The winner, Theresho Moshidi, won a scholarship to become a professional in the South African economy.

“Theresho will become a professional model. As part of the prize she will now have an agent to manage her modelling career. We have noticed that these young women partake in various modelling competitions around Tembisa but they just end up nowhere,” said Itumeleng.

“I am very grateful for the support we got from the community.”

Thato Mashego, who works at Mamelodi Sundowns, helped to pay for the hall. Red Berets (EFF) Phomolong branch mobilised the people to come in and supported the event.

Theresho said she was overwhelmed. She said she started modelling in high school.

“I never thought much about being Miss Face of Tembisa. This is my first crown. I thank all the people who supported me from the beginning,” said Theresho.
