Big business needs more women

Pastor Welcome Thamsanqa Mlungisi Dlalisa.

In addition to youth whom we addressed last week, women too have a major role to play in big business. Notice that I did not say “in business” – I said in “big business”. Women possess grace and are anointed.

Women have distinct features and attributes which men do not have. Unless women recognise this, they will miss the opportunities that this presents them. In this article, we highlight the attributes which help women to lead better and improve the business sector.

In our country we are blessed in that the government has created the prerequisite legislative framework to level the playing field. This means that being a women is no longer a disadvantage but is perhaps an advantage. Therefore, young ladies and ladies in general must stand up and optimize the opportunities government has created.

Below are some of the positive attributes of women, which gives them an advantage to achieve business success:

1. Stronger Leadership Acumen

According to several studies, women tend to be better leaders with better intuition. A women can see things from afar. They can see things from a distance due to their intuition. If this were a sermon in church, I would say they possess the “gift of discernment”. This attribute gives women a far better chance to lead. Remember, leadership is different from management. In leadership we deal with “influence”. Women do not need power to lead. Remember that influence is not position dependent.

2. Women are Networking Professionals

Women have mastered the important aspect of business which is “networking”. These networks help grow and expand business ideas, clients, diversification, expansion and skills. Women are masters of navigation and putting their ideas to the test is their gift. They do this through networking. They follow-up and make sure they sow their seeds of ideas in the most fertile networking ground. Additionally, their inherent ability to be creative allows them to discover opportunities that most miss.

3. Women are Natural Givers

Women seek to give to others and their communities. They are naturally interested in corporate social investments (CSI). This in turn opens the hearts of community members, clients and leads to business growth. In addition, we see them also running most non-profit organisations successfully. Women enjoy living their lives for a cause that serves the advancement and acceleration of societal needs. This is why in the workplace women are great at inspiring and uplifting those around them. This is why most women leaders are such excellent long-term strategic thinkers. They are less inclined to rally behind a short-term strategy if a more sustainable approach can be executed.

4. Women are Opportunity Experts

Women see opportunity in everything and everyone – their neighbors, friends, family, business associates, strategic partners, etc. Women have the ability to see opportunity and give their ideas life and inspire others to do the same. Women, when given the opportunity to be themselves, are natural leaders!

In order to help entrepreneurs of Tembisa to implement what we are learning via these articles, I have set up what I call the Joseph’s Achievers Mentoring (JAM) programme. The programme is based on Joseph in the bible who rose to prominence despite his background. I am encouraging all Tembisan residents to join. This programme is aimed at supporting all residents of Tembisa but it targets mainly entrepreneurs, young professionals, university students and high school learners. It offers a range of support initiatives including career guidance, training and mentoring. Many have enrolled in the programme and receive business management training and mentoring. I challenge you to enroll in order to propel your life or your business to new heights. To register on JAM, send an email to [email protected] or call the numbers below.
