A passenger in a truck which rear-ended another truck on the R21 on Thursday, was airlifted from the accident scene.

The accident happened around 1.30pm between the Nelmapius and Olifantsfontein Road turn-offs.

Werner Vermaak of ER24 said various services arrived on the scene where they found one truck that rear-ended another.

“The driver (29) and his passenger, believed to be in his thirties, were trapped inside the truck. Tshwane fire and rescue services had to use rescue tools to free them from the wreckage,” Vermaak added.

The passenger sustained several injuries and a medical helicopter was called to the scene to airlift him to hospital.

The driver was treated for his injuries on the scene and transported to a nearby hospital.

The exact circumstances surrounding the collision is not yet known.
