Two women raped at gunpoint in Ivory Park

Ivory Park SAPS has opened two cases of rape after two women were raped at gunpoint in two separate incidents during the night of August 27.

The cases in question were opened on August 28 and have been handed over to the detectives from the SAPS’s Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation.

Ivory Park SAPS communications officer Capt Bernard Matimulane, said in the first rape incident, a 28-year-old woman accepted a lift from the occupants of a taxi, one of whom was known to her.

“But once the car was in motion the two men began to change direction, with one of them saying he wanted to collect food from somewhere. Eventually the two men went to an address in Ivory Park where she was forced out of the vehicle into a shack, and the two took turns raping the victim at gunpoint with her mouth sealed with sticky tape. Once they were done with her, she managed to escape,” explained Matimulane.

Matimulane said that in the second incident a 24-year-old woman who was on the way home from visiting her male friend was also raped at gunpoint.

“She was accosted by an armed man who instructed her to go to an unfinished and unoccupied shack at Extension 10, Ivory Park, where she was raped.

“Police are investigating both cases and strongly believe they will be able to make some headway soon,” said Matimulane.
