Police concerned by women abuse arrests

NORKEM Park SAPS is concerned about the recent number of arrests over various forms of women abuse in its policing area.

The station encourages residents to stop the abuse of women and children as the country is already dealing with a reality that South Africa has a lot of unreported incidents of women and child abuse.

Just recently, a 38-year-old man was arrested for pointing a firearm at his wife after she had damaged his cellphone. The incident happened on August 9 at Pelikan Complex in Birchleigh.

Another man was also arrested for acting violently towards a woman over a cellphone on August 14 in Birchleigh.

Norkem Park SAPS spokesperson, Capt Lesibana Molokomme, explained, “This particular suspect was angry at his own mother after she had taken his cellphone from him. He acted violently and threatened to burn and kill his mother if she did not give him the cellphone.”

Norkem Park police deem this kind of behaviour unacceptable and demand that locals conduct themselves well and rather be the protectors of children and women instead of abusing them at the very same places they call home.
