Creating whistle-blowers

On August 4 the community of Vusumuzi section met with various stakeholders to talk about the crime in the area.

Captain Nelda Sekgobela said members of Tembisa South SAPS, station commander Colonel Nthipe Boloka, detectives Commander Lieutenant Colonel Baloyi, sector managers, Social Crime Prevention, the Communication Officer, community patrollers and the ward councillor gathered at Vusumuzi dumping site together with the community of Vusumuzi in order to discuss issues on crime.

“Members of the community were also given whistles to blow whenever they are facing attacks by the criminals. The community was advised to act by phoning the police whenever they notice that their lives as well as those of their neighbours are in danger,” Captain Sekgobela said.

She said Vusumuzi Section is a problematic area due to murders and assault cases, especially over the weekends.

“Liquor was seen as a contributing factor, as most of the cases reported started in the taverns.”
