Police chase leads officers to rape victim

TWO alleged robbers were apprehended by police while a third who allegedly raped one of the victims, escaped.

Norkem Park SAPS acting spokesperson, Capt Mahlodi Langa, said the men allegedly kidnapped and raped a woman after she and her friend were found without valuables on them at 2.30am on July 30.

The women were walking home from a local tavern after a night out on Umhlohlo Street in Birch Acres when three men approached them. They were driving a white VW Golf with a Limpopo registration number.

Langa said the men first demanded money and cellphones but the women had none in their possession.

“They men then drove away with one of the women. They drove to Pretoria Road and ended up at an open field in Kaalfontein. That was where one of the suspects took the woman out of the vehicle, forced her to undress and raped her,” said Langa.

While the 27-year-old Somalian suspect was raping the woman, he heard police sirens approaching and fled the scene.

“The woman ran towards the sirens and found patrolling officers who had been chasing a suspicious vehicle that refused to stop in Birchleigh. The vehicle sped off in the direction of Kaalfontein.

“The woman informed the officers what had happened to her. The officers acted swiftly and arrested the two suspects left behind by their friend when he ran away.”

One of the suspects is of Somali nationality and the other is a South African from Limpopo.
