Sunday saw a Soweto-based, Ndengeza FC that plays under ABC Motsepe league, fighting for victory against the local boys, Spain FC, in a final game of the Top 8 Soccer tournament.
Ndengeza FC shattered Spain FC’s hopes of winning the tournament when they displayed a remarkable talent in football defeating the home team 2-0 in a 90-minute encounter. Within 20 minutes, Matemu Shabalala of Ndengeza FC managed to register the only goal which saw his team take the lead.
Ndengeza players, with the likes of Jomo Mokasi, a former Orlando Pirates player; Baymond Wachita, Ronald Chauke and Lenox Baloyi, tightened their defence making it harder for the local boys to sneak in goals.
It was evident, however, that Spain FC was ready to fight on in the hope of winning.
The first half ended with Ndengeza FC leading 1-0.
The second stanza saw both teams coming back well-organised and ready to continue the challenge. Pressure intensified on the field as both sides fought for goals, but missed out on them on numerous chances.
Against the run of play, Ndengeza managed to extend their lead when they scored their second goal through Willy Makhubela who received a well-passed ball from his left winger, Matemu Shabalala.
Unfortunately for Spain FC players, they were unable to score while facing the strong defence of Ndengeza players and keeper Siya Ngeza who made it impossible for the home team to score even a single goal.
When the final whistle blew, the score reflected a 2-0 victory for Ndengeza FC.
Ndengeza FC coach Ginola Mashela, said he was excited about taking part in the Tembisa matches and building a good relationship with Kasi townships.
