Ekurhuleni North Cluster successes

Ongoing joint operations in the Ekurhuleni North SAPS Cluster continue to yield positive results.

Members of the SAPS, at times assisted by the metro police, have since Friday arrested a total of 24 suspects for public drinking, 36 for driving motor vehicles while under the influence of alcohol, 32 for possession of drugs, one for dealing in drugs and three for possession of suspected stolen goods. Officers also issued a total of 12 tickets to those selling liquor without licences.

This is a continuation of the work and operation done last weekend when as many people were arrested for more or less similar transgressions.

Ivory Park SAPS communication officer Captain Bernard Matimulane said these suspects were arrested in areas such as Kempton Park, Tembisa, Ivory Park, Rabie Ridge and Edenvale.

“Alcohol consumption and drug abuse is rife in the area, and part of the reason we targeted these illegal outlets, drug users and those driving while under the influence is that these violations bring up a host of other problems. These include assaults, house burglaries and robberies by addicts, and road related-accidents [involving] those driving under the influence of alcohol,” said Matimulane.
