Education is not the problem, we are

Nelson Mandela once said that education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world and he knew exactly what he was talking about.

What I like about this statement is that he never said education from private or public educational institutions.

But we often say that education is only the best when is acquired from a private institution.

Not that we do not know better; we just do not know anymore what is causing our kids to fail dismally in life.

Parents do what is best for their children, including enrolling them in private schools, and often few succeed. Arguably, this confuses parents.

“How can he just waste my money like that?” they ask.

Education does not guarantee success, irrespective of where is from. However, it helps greatly if you are willing to make it work for you.

In today’s world, nothing comes for free or because you went to a certain school. You cannot expect to get a job when you do not even bother to apply for one. Master’s degree or not, no one knows that so-and-so (those that hire, not your friends) is qualified to do a certain job.

Lectures at varsity or college hardly teach you how to look for a job, or networking skills for that matter. What they are interested in is seeing you graduate. This has caused many graduates to blame the universities and colleges they went to, seldom themselves. Whose responsibility is it to get you a job?

Let me tell you something. Go stand in front of your mirror with a book and pen and do the following;

1. While standing, look at the mirror and say, “I am a winner and my future is my responsibility.” You have to actually mean it.

2. Draw a circle and divide it into four sections. Each section should be dedicated to Strength, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. Be as honest as possible.

This exercise will help in determining exactly what you need to do and how to do it. The rest is up to you. If you would like to win, see yourself as a winner and do what needs to be done no matter what.

I do not want to lie to you, nothing is easy. I also wish it was.

Just know that if something is easy, it probably leads you nowhere.
